1  Tubular Immersion Heater

Tubular heater elements are designed primarily for direct immersion in liquids such as water, oils, solvents and process solutions, molten materials as well as air and gases.

CONSTRUCTION: -

consists of a helical Nickel Chromium resistance coil with a cold terminal attached to each end, precisely centered and uniformly stretched within a heavy gauge metal pipe. It is then filled with high purity Magnesium Oxide insulation. This assembly is then swaged, reducing the diameter of the tube and compacting insulation to insure rapid heat transfer and hold the coil in its position. The sheath materials used are SS304, SS 316 Incoloy etc as the case may be

Sheath Materials

Copper Sheath: Water heating, water solutions non-corrosive to copper.

Steel Sheath: Immersion in oils, molten salt baths, alkaline cleaning solutions, tars and asphalt. Also suitable for clamping to metal surfaces and casting into aluminum.

Stainless Steel Sheath: Corrosive liquids, food processing equipment.

Incoloy Sheath: Air heating, radiant heating, cleaning and degreasing solutions, plating and pickling solutions, corrosive liquids.


Other sheath materials are also available for application considerations. Commonly specified are 316 stainless steel and Carpenter 20 stainless steel for corrosive immersion heating, copper clad steel for metal casting, Inconel for high temperature applications, and titanium for severely corrosive solution heating. Porcelain and ceramic coatings can also be provided for corrosive atmospheres in process air applications, immersion heating, or for other application considerations.

Construction:

  • Copper clad steel tubular element
• Edgewood furnace-brazed fins
• .430 sheath diameter with outside fin diameter of 1-5/16" in straight lengths or factory formed "U" bend or "W" bend
• Choice of terminals (threaded stud and locknut, ceramic-to-metal seal, threaded terminal and mounting bushing, ceramic-to-metal seal and mounting bushings)
• 11 watts per square inch of surface
• 75 watts per square inch of sheath
• 240v or 480v
